I hope you all had a great weekend!

Last week, Sidd lead us on an insightful discussion about 'Compassion'. Together we learned

  *
Compassion is both a state of being and an action. It's a recognition of our shared humanity & a decision to commit oneself to another's wellbeing.
  *
Compassion isn't simply pity. In fact, the word 'compassion' derives from the Hebrew word for 'womb'. So, it is more akin to the inherent, natural commitment a parent feels for their child. This is Exactly how God feels about us, inherently (Ps 103:13). This is why we're able to come to God for forgiveness, trusting that he will unconditionally accept us back.
  *
At compassion's peak, one is not only willing to commit themselves to another's wellbeing, but to even trade places with them (as Jesus demonstrated on the cross). And, because Jesus lowered himself in compassion, God raised him up highest (Philippian 2:6-10). This is compassion's reward.
  *
We can each grow into compassion also. When we come to feel the depth of God's compassion, we can't help but express it towards others at the very depth we've received it. (1 John 4:19)

Tomorrow, starting promptly at 6:30PM, Sidd will be leading us on a word study centered on the word "Grace".

Snacks will be provided.
