Compassion (a word study) - URMCCF 10/20

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Last week, Idorenyin lead us on a beautiful discussion centered on the question:  'Where is your treasure at?' (Matt 6:19-21). Together we learned

While God isn't against us gaining earthly treasures (such as wealth, applause, titles and achievements), we mustn't forget that in the end, it's our heavenly treasures that lasts and proves most meaningful.

As Matt 6:33 shows us, when we seek God's kingdom first, we get everything we need too -- the earthly treasures AND , more importantly, God's heavenly treasures.

What is 'the kingdom' or 'the heavenly treasures' we're to seek first? It's the meaning, the WHY or the core behind everything we do. It's so easy to overlook or forget these in the chase for the tangible thing. For instance, often when we're chasing wealth, we're chasing a sense that we're valuable (Understanding this, one gains the courage to forfeit a few thousand dollars for a meaningful & impactful career instead). Often when one is chasing an attractive romantic partner, often they're truly chasing this sense of TRUE love & acceptance (found in Christ)

Ultimately, when one has heavenly treasures and seeks it FIRST and above all, they avoid so many modern traps ubiquitous in our times like the empty yet picturesque life/marriage, the lucrative yet soul-sucking career, etc, etc.
