Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a restful weekend!

Last Monday we had an amazing discussion on marriage to the Holy Spirit. Some key points from last week:

  *
In Romans 7, Paul uses marriage to describe Christ's work on the cross. Thanks to Christ we are married to a new husband. First, we were married to the law, but after the death and resurrection of Christ we are now married to the spirit.
  *
The book of Ruth provides an example of marriage to a husband who died and resurrected. Ruth's original husband (Son of Naomi) dies, but when Boaz marries Ruth as the kinsman redeemer, he vows to take on the name of her dead husband and carry out a dead man's inheritance (give it new life)
  *
If we reflect on how Boaz breathes new life into Ruth's husbands name, we can consider how our relationship with the spirit is a marriage relationship. We were first married to the law, which demanded complete obedience from the flesh. But by the grace of God, we are justified through faith, not works. So, we are now married to the spirit, who has secured our righteousness.
  *
As the spirit is our husband, we yield to his headship. Though we are not perfect, by being married to the Spirit we trust Him to lead and sanctify us in our relationship, much like how our other relationships can transform us.
