Finding your Treasure - URMCCF 10/13

Happy Sunday everyone!

Last week, Sidd led us on a great discussion on practicing medicine as Christians. Together we learned:

As Christians, Jesus calls each of us to care for the sick and vulnerable. Therefore, our growth as healthcare workers and researchers is not separate from our personal faith journey. In fact, it’s an extension of it. (Did you know hospitals were largely a Christian invention?)

Spiritual health is an important aspect of a patient's overall health. And addressing our patients' spiritual needs doesn’t have to be complicated either. It can be as simple as asking “what gives you hope?’
  *
With advancing treatments and technologies, many may look to medicine to save them from aging, sickness and death, but as Christians we know life is truly sustained by God’s presence (Col 1:17).
  *
 Bringing our faith into the patient encounter may feel taboo at times, but our faith ultimately informs & bleeds into everything we do, often positively impacting the sense of duty, love and ethics we approach patients with. So, patients are  disadvantaged when we bring only part of ourselves to the patient encounter. Many Christian physicians often prematurely decide that all matters of faith & spiritual health are off the table, but one may be surprised how open patients & workplaces are, and how beneficial it is to share.

Tomorrow, starting promptly at 6:30PM, ​Idorenyin will be leading us on a discussion centered on the question 'Where is your treasure at?' (Matt 6:21).  As always, stop by to grow in your faith & fellowship with believers!
