I hope you all had a great weekend!
Last week we had a great discussion on The Call of Samuel. Together we learned that:
*
As God did for Hannah, sometimes, God, in his love, let's us go through tough times to bring us closer to our purpose, and to lead us to an even deeper relationship with Him.
*
Like Samuel, several key bible figures were conceived after long dry spells-- Isaac, Samson, John the Baptist, Joseph, Esau & Jacob. Perhaps it's the ones God intends for special use that he tests the most, and not the other way wrong.
*
While Samuel was dedicated to God at birth, essentially born into the rigorous Nazarite vow, he STILL had a choice, just as Eli's sons (1 Sam 2:30-32). It's as if there are two ways to live -- inside God's call and blessed for it OR outside God's call and cursed for it. Samuel simply got to learn what his life call was early, but he still had to choose
*
While God is accommodating & gracious (we saw God kept calling Samuel, even when he wasn't quite getting it), God also levies justice and punishes, as he did with Eli's family. So, we must maintain a balanced view of God (Jeremiah 23:23; Job 5:18)
*
And as God called Samuel, God's calling us today. While most of us won't hear the voice Samuel did, his story reminds us, God's voice often sounds so familiar, we take it for granted at first. Maybe every now and then we ought to pause our usual rush & routine, and ask 'what if that were God?'
Tomorrow, starting promptly at 6:30PM, Sidd will be leading a discussion on 'Practicing Medicine as Christians'. As always, come through to fellowship with fellow believers, and learn more about God!
Snacks will be provided.
