Hi everyone,
HE IS RISEN!! I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend!
Last Monday we had an amazing discussion on Jesus teachings in the aftermath of Palm Sunday (Matthew 21:12-27). Some key points from last week:
*
God often uses unlikely people to speak the truth to us. He can use even children sometimes. Be humble enough to listen.
*
Jesus calls us to be fruitful as believers, bearing the fruit of the spirit. This is the reason Jesus curses the fig tree (representing humans). The bigger sin was that the fig leaves made it LOOK fruitful, when it was actually fruitless (like the Pharisees). When we're in sin, we often use fig leaves to hide our shame and guilt (like Adam & Eve), but what we really ought to do is remain in Christ so we can bear fruit (John 15:4)
*
We have great power to perform miracles, even today. Don't overlook even the mundane ways God can use you to do mighty things. We plant and water, but God makes things grow. (1 Cor 3:7)
*
We must be careful to ensure that God's house remains a house of prayer (where the poor, sick and children are welcomed and healed), and not a den of robbers (where making sacrifices and financial gain takes precedence)
*
Not all questioning deserves answers. Jesus was wise enough to see--as should we--that when the Pharisees were asking him where he got authority from, no answer would've satisfied them. Because they weren't really curious and had made up their minds. They were just trying to trap him. It takes wisdom to know when to not waste your words/energy
